MAAUN Group of Universities has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to produce highly qualified nurses in the country.
The President of the Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo made the remark when the accreditation team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) paid him a courtesy call in his MAAUN Kano office on Wednesday.
The accreditation team, under the leadership of the Registrar of the Council, was in the university for the accreditation of the courses in the School of Nursing Sciences.
Prof. Gwarzo said the collaboration was necessary in order to ensure high quality of Nursing and Midwifery education with a view to producing highly qualified nurses in Nigeria and Africa at large.
He assured that MAAUN would continue to do its best in providing the necessary facilities and equipment to make sure the profession is leading in the country.
Prof. Gwarzo who doubles as the President of Association of African Private Universities (AAPU), commended the NMCN Registrar for redeeming the image of Nursing profession adding that the profession is now accepted and recognised all over the world.
He, however, advocated for the formation of the Nursing Council of Africa so that registered nurses under the NCA could be accepted and recognised across the African continent.
“We should also create slots for foreign students to come to Nigeria to study nursing in our universities just like we go to Sudan and other countries,” he said.
In his remark, the President of MAAUN Nigeria, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr said the university was happy to receive the team as the visit would give the university the opportunity to use their recommendations for further improvement.
Earlier, the Team Lead and Registrar of the Council, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar said the team was in the university to carry out its statutory mandates and to fully assess the infrastructure and human resources available.
He lauded the Founder of the university for establishing the university and management for keeping the university environment clean and tidy.
Also, in his remarks, the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Abubakar Awais thanked the team for their time and inputs and promised to use their suggestions for the progress of the university.
