Prof. Gwarzo tasks parents on secondary school education

The President of Association of African Private Universities and Founder of Maryam Abacha American University conglomerate, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo has advised parents to lay more emphasis on secondary school education.

Prof. Gwarzo gave the advice during the Speech and Prize giving day of Intercontinental Schools, Kano, held on Monday, 17th July, 2023 at Afficent Event Center.

He said the advice was necessary in view of the significant role secondary school education plays in providing a better foundation for students before going to university.

\”So, parents should invest more in colleges because that is where children will have a better background or foundation because in the university we don\’t teach but lecture students.

Prof. Gwarzo, who is also the founder of Franco-British International University, Kaduna and Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja, enjoined parents to take their children to best secondary schools to enable them get the best foundation so that they could be successful in the university.

\”But if you send your child to a mushroom secondary school and later send him to MAAUN, we can not change his intellectual capacity. So, it\’s very important that parents should invest more in a lower level of education, that is where they will have a better foundation that can enable them to compete with any student all over the world.

He commended the College for producing the best students who are currently studying various degree programs in various universities, including Maryam Abacha American University of Niger and Nigeria.

He, therefore, charged the proprietress of the college to continue to maintain standards and not to engage in competition with other schools so as to continue to have the confidence of parents.

In her address, the proprietress of the college, Hajia (Dr.) Hadiza Nuhu Yusuf Baba, advised parents to stop giving children smartphones and other expensive handsets to check the negative effects of social media on children.

She said as parents, they have a crucial role to play in ensuring proper upbringing of their wards.

Among the MAAUN management staff that also attended the Speech and Prize Giving Day were the President of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar and Vice President Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba.
